Week Beginning 8.5.16

Dear Parents/Carers,

Maths

Next week we will be revisiting our work on addition. Many of the the children are now ready to start using a more formal written method for completing addition calculations involving two 2 digit numbers. Below is an example of the method they are being taught which you may find a useful reference for any work completed at home. We ask the children to add the ones first and then the tens. We will not at this stage be moving onto calculations that involve carrying of the ones.

 34 + 45 = 79

 30 + 4

 40 + 5

 70 + 9 = 79

Your child will also be bringing a letter home highlighting their first two Rainbow Maths targets for this term. The children will have opportunities in class to practise, but any additional work at home will help them to achieve their targets.

Spelling Books

Please could all spelling books be returned to school on Thursdays so that the new spelling lists can be stuck in ready for your child to take home on Friday. If your child does not have their book in school we will give them the list which will hopefully make its way home! If you could stick it into the book that would be really helpful.

PTA Bake Off

The PTA ‘Bake Off’ takes place on Monday 8th May. Cakes will be on sale in the main hall. Parents may purchase cakes from 2.30pm onwards and children from 3.00pm.

Reminder

School is closed on Tuesday for the Liberation day holiday.
