Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to the Spring term. We hope that you have had a good Christmas.

Maths

Our Rainbow maths targets for this term will be focused on helping the children double and halve numbers quickly and accurately. Alongside this they shall also be working on a times table target. Next week we shall be assessing the children and setting targets accordingly. Your child will then bring home a letter outlining the targets that they will be working on. These targets will be checked regularly in timed assessments which the children will then bring home to show you how well they are meeting their targets.

Next week in maths we will be working on addition and subtraction where we will be reviewing strategies to help us add/subtract to and from 2 digit numbers.

Topic

Our main topic for this term is Space and we have lots of cross curricular activities planned which we hope the children will enjoy. Next week we shall begin by looking at the different planets in the solar system before selecting one to research in more detail. We shall then be writing non chronological reports on this planet. We are always happy for the children to bring additional resources or information from home that they may want to share with their class.

Art Resources

To help us travel into our space journey we are beginning by making our own space rockets. To boost our resources for this project, if you have any of the following items at home we would be very pleased to receive them:

• Cylindrical shaped tubes
• Plastic bottles
• Bottle tops
• Small foil cake cases
• yogurt drink bottles
