Weekly Note – week commencing 13.2.17

Dear Parents/Carers,

Maths
Next week we shall be finishing our unit on subtraction alongside completing some half termly assessment of previous topics covered. After half term we shall be starting a unit on the concept of division. To help with this work you may find some of the following ideas helpful:
Take a handful of pasta or similar and put it into groups of 5 – how many groups of 5 can you make? How many altogether? How many left over? Can you make groups of different amounts using the same amount of pasta?
Share different sets of objects between 2, 5, 10, 3. Counting accurately the starting number and then sorting into a specific number of groups is something the children often find quite difficult.
How many 2s in 8, 5s in 25 etc
Quick fire number halving facts
Ongoing practise of multiplication facts

Topic
The children are really immersed in and enjoying their work on Space and are producing some super work. Many thanks for all your support in helping with the planet research homework.

Parent Appointments
We look forward to meeting with you next week to discuss your child’s progress.

We hope you have an enjoyable half term week. School will finish at normal time time next Friday.

Thank you for your continued support.

Weekly Note – week commencing 6.2.17

Dear Parents/Carers,

School Closure
Just a reminder that school will be closed on Monday 6th February for staff training day.

Maths
Our work in maths next week will continue to focus on subtraction.

Homework
The children have been set literacy/topic homework (researching a planet) this week that will help them with their report writing. This is a vital bit of research/note taking that your child will need to help them write a report in school. Your child will have brought this home in their book bags today. Please could the sheet be returned to school by Wednesday 8th February.

Author Visit
We are very lucky to have the author Kristina Stephenson visiting us on Wednesday to talk to the children about her books.

Bring and Buy Book Sale
As part of our Book Week celebrations this year we will be holding a ‘Bring and Buy a Book’ sale on Friday 10th February. The children are invited to bring to school any unwanted books from home which are still in good condition and could be loved by another child. All the books will be sold for 50p and the money raised will be used to buy new books for the school. The sale will take place during school time in the main hall. If your child would like to buy a book(s) in the sale then please can they bring 50p coins with them on Friday. They will be allowed to buy 2 books when visiting with their class. Any extra books will then be available to purchase at lunch time.

Book Day
On Friday 10th February, the children are invited to come to school dressed as a character from a chosen book. The children will have time to talk about their chosen book character and the story from which they are from.
