Weekly note- week beginning 28.11.16

Week Beginning 28.11.16

Dear Parents / Carers,

Maths
Next week we will be continuing with our work on multiplication and arrays. The children might like to look out for arrays at home, for example, a chocolate bar or an egg box or they can make their own arrays using Lego or toys.

Christmas Fayre
The Christmas Fayre is on Thursday 1st December. If you wish to take your child to this, you may collect them from their classroom from 2.30pm.

Christmas Concert- Costumes and Tickets
A big well done to all of the children who have learnt their lines for the Christmas Concert- they have done a fantastic job. Costumes for the concert will mostly be provided by the school. Unless you hear otherwise, your child will not need to bring in anything extra into school. Tickets for the concert will be coming home with your child next week. For health and safety reasons, were are limited to 2 seats per family. If you do not need both tickets, we would be very grateful if you could return them to the office so they can be reallocated. Tickets will be collected on the door.

Many thanks for your continued support.
Mrs Ashworth, Miss Ozanne and Miss Geall

Week Beginning 21.11.16

Dear Parents / Carers,

Maths
Next week we shall begin a unit of work on multiplication. In class we shall be working on the following types of activities;
• counting in 2’s, 3’s, 5’s and 10’s
• putting objects into groups of 2, 3, 5 and 10 and then representing this as a repeated addition and then a multiplication number sentence – this helps highlight the link between the two operations.
• We shall introduce the x sign and related vocabulary such as ‘groups of’, ‘lots of’, ‘sets of’.

Literacy
The children are really enjoying our new literacy topic about dinosaurs. We have been looking at non-fiction facts and focusing on the details of non-chronological reports (headings, technical vocabulary, describing words etc). The children will soon be writing their own non-chronological report about a dinosaur.

Christmas Concert- Scripts
Our rehearsals for the Christmas concert have now begun and the children have been very busy in music lessons learning the songs. Today your child will come home with a letter explaining their role in the concert along with some lines to learn if they have a speaking part. If your child has lines, please help them to practise saying them in a loud clear voice.

Colouring Books
We have had lots of wet playtimes recently and there are still some children without a colouring book to colour. Please could you ensure your child has a colouring book that they can keep in their tray for rainy days – thank you.

Advanced Christmas Concert Notice
The children will be performing a Christmas play for you on Thursday December 8th at 2pm. Due to the large year group size there will be a maximum of 2 seats available per family and we ask that, where possible, no pre-school children are brought to the concert please. Tickets will be available to collect nearer the time. If you know that your child will not be in school on this day for a specific reason, please could you let your child’s teacher know as soon as possible so that we do not allocate them a particular part.

Many thanks for your continued support.
Miss Geall, Mrs Ashworth and Miss Ozanne

Weekly Note – Week Commencing 14.11.16

Dear Parents / Carers,

Maths
Our work in maths next week will continue to focus on subtraction. If you wish to reinforce this work at home the following activities may be helpful.
 Counting back from any given number
 Begin at 20 (extending to 50 when ready), roll a dice, subtract this amount, and keep going until you reach 0. How many rolls of the dice are needed to get to 0?
 Practise quick and accurate recall of subtraction facts within 20 e.g. 9-5, 7-4, 8-3,12-4 etc
 Can you then apply this to help you solve other facts e.g. I know 9-5=4 so I can quickly calculate 19-4, 39-4 etc.

Fire Station Visit
Next Tuesday, as part of our Fire of London topic, we shall be having a visit from the Fire service. The children will be outside for part of the morning so please can they come to school with a coat.

Children in Need – 18th November
Next Friday is Children in Need day. The theme this year is spots so the children are invited to make a donation and come into school wearing ‘spotty’ themed MUFTI

PE Kit
Please can children in Mrs Ashworth’s class bring their PE kit to school on Fridays

Many thanks
Mrs Ashworth Miss Geall and Miss Ozanne

Weekly Note – week commencing 7.11.16

Dear Parents / Carers,

Swimming
Swimming lessons have stopped until after Easter and children now need PE kit on Thursdays and Fridays. Please can all kit, including shoes, be clearly named.

Maths
Our focus in maths next week is subtraction. We shall be working on using known number facts, counting back along number lines and then moving on to partitioning into tens and ones when working with 2 digit numbers. Alongside this we shall continue to work on Rainbow Maths targets. Mathletics is a great resource for practising these skills but you may also be interested in some of the following ipad apps which we use in school;

• ‘MathDuel’ – 2 player split screen (Ellie’s Games)
• ‘QuickMath’ (Shiny Things)
• ‘Squeebles Add and Subtract’ (KeyStageFun)
• ‘Springbird Addition and Subtraction’ (free or upgraded version)
Some of these apps are also available for android tablets.
